We already have al the technology in place to massively reduce all road-traffic accidents, if only the Government and police forces were seriously interested.

All of the speed cameras we have in place could, with possibly a simple software upgrade, be made to measure stopping distances instead - the major cause of RTA by far. Changing the speed cameras to instead measure safe stopping distances could still be linked to fines for poor driving, (thus no decrease in funds generated) but would be far less unpopular, and massively reduce tailgating that all drivers hate.
