Road Traffic Accidents

The roads of Sussex are some of the busiest in the country and sadly road traffic accidents are all too common.

BG acts for the victims of all kinds of road traffic accidents, including:-

  • Drivers
  • Passengers
  • Multiple vehicle accidents
  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists
  • Motorcyclists
  • Bus accidents
  • Accidents caused by uninsured motorists/hit and runs
  • Accidents caused by foreign drivers
  • Road traffic accidents abroad
  • Deliberate running down cases
  • Accidents caused by defects in the road

BG has particular expertise in accidents involving cyclists. One of our solicitors, Nick Hind, is himself a keen cyclist – “I cycle to work every day and am very aware of the dangers posed to cyclists on our roads.

Thankfully I have never been involved in an accident myself, but I’ve had a few close shaves. I have seen first hand how momentary inattention on the part of a driver can lead to extreme danger for a cyclist.

From the claims I have handled on behalf of cyclists injured in accidents I have also seen, sadly, the all too serious consequences. Sometimes claims involving cycling accidents can be hard fought.

Often a driver will not acknowledge that their actions have caused the accident, preferring instead to blame the cyclist. If you’ve been knocked off your bike and have been injured then you need robust representation in dealing with the driver’s insurance company.

I think it also helps to have a solicitor who understands cycling and the interaction of cyclists and vehicles on the road”

Below are examples of the different types of road traffic accident claims that BG has recently settled:-

  • A pedestrian hit by a wheel that came loose from a vehicle being towed
  • A pedestrian deliberately run down by a neighbour outside his home
  • A driver blindsided by a car emerging from a side road
  • A driver hit by an uninsured driver
  • A passenger in a car that lost control and collided with a wall
  • A pedestrian walking on the pavement hit by a driver under the influence of alcohol
  • A motorcyclist hit by a driver who had suffered a stroke
  • A motorcyclist who crashed under instruction
  • A cyclist killed by a car emerging at speed from a side road
  • A cyclist hit by a car door being opened into his path
  • A cyclist hit by a car traversing a roundabout
  • A bus passenger who fell down the stairs of the bus when the driver pulled away and braked sharply
