On Thursday 22nd September, the annual quiz organised by the Worthing Law Society was back, bigger and better than ever…and it was all in a good cause, as we raised nearly £200 for charity!
In last year’s quiz, the Bennett Griffin team stormed to victory, so we had a lot to live up to this year (especially as we had forgotten to return the trophy!).
This year, 14 teams from local law firms competed in the quiz, held at the Dome in Worthing. The three teams from Bennett Griffin (‘The Golden Nuggets’, ‘It’s the Taking Part that Counts’ and ‘Universally Challenged’) were tested in various rounds, including the usual music, sport, and entertainment rounds. There were also some more unusual rounds, including labelling the roads on a blank Monopoly board, and the 11+, which stretched all the teams, despite many of them having sat the real 11+ once upon a time. The highlight of the evening was a rock ‘n’ roll singing performance from the Law Society President, Bennett Griffin’s Stephen Hollamby!
At the half-way point, one of our teams, ‘It’s the Taking Part that Counts’, was in the lead! The team members (Darren Edwards, Mark Diamond, Matthew Hollamby, Jess Lock, and Nick Hind) put this achievement down to Nick’s amazing ability to label all the States on a map of the US!
At the end of the evening, ‘Universally Challenged’ came in 10th, followed by ‘The Golden Nuggets’ in 7th place. Sadly, ‘It’s the Taking Part that Counts’ narrowly missed out on victory, coming in 2nd, just 3.5 points behind the winners. We’ll be brushing up on our quiz knowledge for next year!
The Worthing Law Society committee will now decide where the funds raised should be donated. Stephen Hollamby will suggest the Worthing Churches Homeless Project and the Solicitors’ Benevolent Association.
