Smoking in the workplace
Smoking will be banned in workplaces with effect from 1 July 2007 across England. Employers will need to act now to comply with this legislation by:-
- Reviewing any current smoking practices in the workplace
- Communicating the changes to all employees and visitors
- Introducing a smoking policy if you do not have one or amending an existing policy
- Reviewing staff safety issues for those employees leaving the premises to smoke
- Reviewing disciplinary procedures with regard to enforcement
- Considering whether to offer support and counselling to staff trying to give up smoking
