A Ban on Inducements for Personal Injury Claims

The latest blog from the personal injury team looks at the legislation that has been introduced by the government recently to ban inducements in personal injury claims. 

The legislation has come in the form of a clause in the Criminal Justice and Courts Bill which is currently going through the House of Lords and aims to ban solicitors from offering inducements such as iPads, gift cards, cash advances, to prospective clients in return for an instruction in a personal injury claim.

The blog looks at the government’s reasoning behind the ban but concludes that the outcome is to be welcomed as such inducements can encourage accident victims to sacrifice quality of service and their own best interests for an apparently attractive immediate benefit.
