Cyclist Injured In Hit-And-Run Secures Major Settlement

After a serious hit-and-run by an uninsured driver, we secured a high six-figure settlement and £50,000 rehab package through the Motor Insurers Bureau, helping our client recover and rebuild.

The Accident

Our client was cycling to Ireland over a couple of days. As he approached Holyhead it had become dark, and even though he had bright lights he was hit from behind by a car.

The driver fled the scene and was later apprehended and prosecuted. It later transpired that he was also not insured.

The Impact

Our client was knocked out and taken to hospital where he stayed for a period of 59 nights.

He underwent multiple surgeries to correct a significant ankle fracture but sustained other serious physical and psychological injuries.

Our client was a high performing individual and was not able to continue in his pre-accident line of work.

Our Approach

As the driver was uninsured we had to pursue the claim against the Motor Insurers Bureau.

At the earliest opportunity we had agreed an ongoing full package of rehabilitation costing around £50,000 that helped our client to make the best recovery possible.

We also agreed regular interim payments so our client was not out of pocket from the fact that he was unable to work.

The Resolution

Following receipt of full medical evidence on all injuries we negotiated a final settlement for our client for a very high six-figure sum plus specific future rehabilitation.

This allowed him to have the financial security to fund future treatment and allow him to obtain alternative employment.
