Covid19 related Probate Delays are not being ignored

Posted by the Private Client team on 28th October 2020

Wills-Covid-19
Reading Time: 2 minutes

As we discuss on our West Sussex Probate Solicitors page, dealing with the loss of a loved one is traumatic enough, but when you add probate, power of attorney, wills, and trusts into the mix then it almost always adds to the stress.

Our probate lawyers offer a sensitive but practical approach and can guide and support you through the entire probate process and we recognise that in these troubling times, anything that delays this can dramatically impact your situation.

It’s been a tricky 12 months for probate lawyers and registrars.  2019 saw a rise in probate applications before fee changes, add in a shift to a more digital application process, and then load on Covid19 which has not just increased deaths but has also affected the capacity of the teams in place at the probate registry offices.

As a result, many members of the public are being affected by the severe delays at the Probate Registry. It means Grants of Probate are taking much longer than usual to get through. Our team are working hard as always to support our clients through this difficult period, and together with SFE (Solicitors for the Elderly) continue to put forward our concerns about the delays.
