Keeping Cool At Work – Advice For EmployersReading Time: < 1 minute
It is always lovely when the sun is out and we can enjoy the summer but when you have to work in the heat keeping your employees cool is something every employer should think about.
Elaine Smith, head of Bennett Griffin’s Company Commercial Department and an employment law specialist offers some practice advice for employers trying to deal with the current hot weather;
Employers should ensure that employees are reasonably comfortable in the workplace and, for office workers, should make full use of air conditioning, fans and additional ventilation is possible.
For those working outside employers should ensure that employees have the right protective equipment for the conditions.
If, despite providing the right equipment and ventilation, temperatures become uncomfortable the employers should consider allowing additional work breaks and look to limit the time of exposure to unreasonable temperatures.
