What Are Bennett Griffin’s Training Contracts / Qualifying Work Experience?
Our training contracts offer a comprehensive and immersive experience in both contentious and non-contentious areas of law.
Our trainee solicitors typically spend six months in 4 different seats, allowing them to experience a range of practice areas.
The seats will be a mix of the following:
- Property (Residential and/or Commercial)
- Private Client (Wills, Trusts and Probate and/or Court of Protection)
- Dispute Resolution (Family and/or Personal Injury and/or Property Litigation and /or Commercial Litigation and/or Contentious Probate)
- Corporate and Commercial.
The decision on what areas of law for each seat you wish to embark on will be as flexible as possible (depending on need and availability).
We have offices based in Worthing and Chichester, and we have a hybrid working approach; however, due to supervision requirements, you may be expected to work more from the office than stated within our standard hybrid working policy. It is important that you are aware of this and have the willingness to agree to the same.
Our trainees will be expected to take on client matters and deal with cases as soon as possible, under supervision.
We provide access to an extensive online library and research facilities to assist the trainees with their work and an open-door policy to all of our team (whether it be the Lawyers, assistants, IT or accounts).
Benefits of Our Training Contracts
Our two-year program is designed to offer a steep yet supportive learning environment, allowing trainees to gain confidence in their abilities, and be ready for qualification.
We have many current Solicitors within the practice who undertook their training contract at Bennett Griffin, including the Managing Partner, Kate Hallin.
Our current trainees have commented:
“Bennett Griffin is a great place to come and learn. I have gained crucial day-to-day experience working in a law firm, dealing with enquiries, compliance checks when opening a new file, preparing bills, etc.
“There is a great depth of experience in each department with everyone happy and willing to help. Also, it’s a forward-thinking firm that has embraced modern work practices (working from home, paperless office etc) with a management team that prioritises the health and happiness of its employees.
“When I started my training contract, I wasn’t sure what department I wanted to qualify into, and I was relaxed about what seats I did.
“As I progressed, I realised I didn’t want to miss out on getting some commercial and company law experience, and Kate Hallin (Managing Partner) arranged for my next seat to be changed to facilitate this.
“I think this flexibility is a perk of training at a smaller firm and I would encourage others to apply if they feel the same way as I did.”
How To Apply
If you would like to apply for a Training Contract with us, we invite you to submit your application by the 28th March 2025.
Please send your CV and a cover letter outlining why you believe you would be good for Bennett Griffin to our Managing Partner, Kate Hallin, via careers@bennett-griffin.co.uk.
Successful applicants selected for interviews will be notified by 30th April 2025, with interviews typically taking place in May 2025.
We will provide our decisions on who has secured a training contract by 27th June 2025.
In considering the applications and during the interviews, we will take into account not simply academic achievements but also an understanding of why you are pursuing a career in the legal profession, what social and personal skills you have that will assist you within this career and what you think you will bring to us as a firm.
We are firm believers here that the best lawyers are not just technically gifted but enthusiastic, able to adapt to all sorts of situations, have significant attention to detail, have good interpersonal skills with colleagues and clients and can take a common sense approach to their work.
We look forward to hearing from you!
