Soggy Santas Battle the Rain for St Barnabas!

Sunday turned out to be one of the wettest and windiest days of the year so far, but that didn’t stop Bennett Griffin turning out in force to support the St Barnabas Santa Dash!

A 3km walk, jog or run along Littlehampton sea front to raise money for the much-loved local adults’ hospice…in Santa suits! 700 Santas had registered to take part in the fundraising event on Sunday 23rd November, and the rain didn’t seem to put many of them off.

It was quite a sight to see hundreds of runners in their red Santa suits, hats and beards set off from the start line at the Banjo Road car park. Somewhere in the crowd were the Bennett Griffin runners – Ian, Ella, Hannah, Richard, Adriana and Jorik, who had only just turned one and managed to sleep snugly in his pushchair for most of it!

Waiting at the finish line on the sea front were our team of Bennett Griffin volunteers, clapping, cheering and handing out medals to all the soggy Santas, young and old, and their many doggy companions (also in festive dress)! This is the second year running that Bennett Griffin have sponsored the medals for the event and, despite the wind and rain, it was an amazing atmosphere. There was Christmas music playing, and mince pies and tea waiting to warm up the runners once they’d finished.

Above all the frivolity, the real importance of the Santa Dash was not lost with many of the runners wearing t-shirts and dedication signs in memory of loved ones who have been cared for by the fantastic team at St Barnabas. The aim of the Santa Dash was to raise awareness and charitable donations to help the hospice continue their amazing work.

We’re still collecting in sponsorship money on our JustGiving page and we hope our contribution will help to benefit the work of the hospice.

Thank you to St Barnabas for arranging a great fundraising event, and to all our staff who ran and volunteered on the finish line!
