A pre-med offer is an offer to settle an injured parties claim before a medical report detailing their injuries has been obtained. These offers are often made before an injured person has sought any legal representation.

The rationale behind these kinds of offers is that insurers seek to limit the amount of money they have to pay by settling the case early. The personal injury teams advice in relation to these offers is always the same: that accepting an offer early and without medical evidence is a bad idea. You can never tell at the outset of a claim just how an injured person is going to recover, or what the eventual financial impact in terms of, for instance, loss of earnings or treatment costs, is going to be.
