Family Matters – Divorce In Later Life with Ben Slater

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Have you seen the first part of our latest Family Matters series?

In the previous episode, Jackie Mensah & Sarah Pennicott began to explore Divorce In Later Life: discussing later life provisioning from a relationship, and financial point of view with Gill Lynes, Senior Financial Planning Manager of Carpenter Box Accountants to who shared clear, practical and common-sense advice on all elements of financial planning.

In this second part of the series, Jackie and Sarah are joined by Ben Slater, an independant social worker and Managing Director of Nellie Supports – the UK’s leading independent Social Work practice, specialising in social care support and mental capacity assessments.

With Ben, they discussed situations where client’s may lack mental capacity needed to litigate and the assessment that Nellie Supports can complete in respect of that capacity.

They also discussed that, in financial proceedings, the courts consider the needs of the parties and the funds needed to meet those needs. In later life, these needs vary hugely, from no extra care to live in carers or specialist care homes.  Ben and the team at Nellie Supports can complete care needs assessments to provide us with the financial information about how much the client will need and also for the benefit of the client to maximise their quality of life going forwards.

If you would like to discuss any issues regarding divorce, relationship breakdown or any Family Law related aspect, please contact Sarah or Jackie on 01903 229999 or info@bennett-griffin.co.uk.
